If you can’t make it to Paris for one of the largest Bastille Day fêtes this weekend, get yourself to one of these top four North American cities to celebrate French Independence day in authentic fashion.

14th July Bastille Day Paris

New York City:

With such a large contingent of French expats living in New York City and an amazing French culinary scene, New York is a hot spot for Bastille Day. Grab a reservation during the city’s French Restaurant Week, and get delicious dining deals at some of New York’s cutest French bistros like La Bonne Soupe and Le Parigot.

New Orleans:

New Orleanians are very proud of their French heritage and that pride will be on parade all throughout the weekend in New Orleans. Kick off your Bastille Day blowout at Decatur Street with a French dog contest where bulldogs, bichons and poodles will battle it out for the Best Dressed, Best Kisser and Most French titles. Be sure to visit the historic French market and the Bal Populaire held at the Old U.S. Mint where French music, food and activities are planned!

Montreal:

Join an army of revelers and celebrate the storming of the Bastille by marching through some of Montreal’s best bars at the Bastille Day Wine Crawl. Or if you’re up for a few laughs this weekend the Just For Laughs festival is in town celebrating 30 years of comedy!

Portland, OR:

Did you know Portland hosts one of the largest West Coast Bastille Day events? The celebration starts tomorrow at noon with Bastille en ville — a free party in Director Park featuring some of Portland’s finest French chefs, arts & crafts and live music all day. A wine garden will be serving up signature St. Germain cocktails and French varietals. Don’t miss the eight annual Waiters Race at 2pm! Continue the celebration on Sunday in the beautiful Willamette Valley at the WillaKenzie Estate where $30 will get you wine tastings, hayrides, music and a French-inspired BBQ by Chef Pascal Chureau of Brasserie Montmartre featuring handmade sausages and Pork Confit sliders!
