Sometimes the best part of traveling is the memories you bring home. We’ve partnered with culture and luxury traveler Dr. Cacinda Maloney from the blog Points and Travel, as she reflects on a recent stay of three flavors of Mexican hotels in Puerto Vallarta.
Mexico has long been known for its strong sense of Mexican culture, food, and family. I have literally been to Mexico hundreds of times and each time I go, I enjoy many different aspects of the culture, the dance, the music, and the language of the Mexican people. Recently my latest trip to Mexico was no different when I experienced three flavors of Mexican hotels in Puerto Vallarta:
Three styles of hotels and resorts in the Puerto Vallarta area where each had a mouthwatering taste of their own:
The Flavorful Hotel Mousai: Trendy, Chic, and Luxury
Tucked on a hillside overlooking Banderas Bay, with the Sierra Madres mountains and jungle behind it, the Hotel Mousai is a new concept of a luxury hotel within an already existing luxury resort complex. Hotel Mousai is located a convenient 15 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, but you will feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the shopping streets.
And this hotel tower is different, way different, from any other offerings in Puerto Vallarta! It is the first and only AAA Five Diamond-rated resort in Puerto Vallarta and it comes with a powerful punch: its negative edge, rooftop pool, and bar on the 18th floor. You will never want to leave! Plus, the rooms and suites are tech savvy and splashed with color and style that defines the latest trends. Its lobby is an art deco haven greeting you with giant red and black chess pieces strategically placed on the shining floor of black and white tiles. The Hiroshi Japanese Restaurant in the tower is divine, and the service there is on point and with a view.
The Savory Villa La Estancia: Old World, Multi-Gen, and Authentic
Extravagance awaits those who want personalized service in a multi-generational, old world décor ambiance. There is plenty of room for the entire family in their multi-room suites for those who want to bring everyone along. Villa La Estancia Beach Resort and Spa is located in Riviera Nayarit and is a AAA Four-Diamond Hotel. It has many different styles of dining options, as well as a gorgeous main pool setting area with pool bar.
The hotel dishes up an authentic Old Mexico feel in the main lobby and has superior rooms, and one, two, and three bedroom suites, some with full-sized kitchens and in-suite laundry facilities as well as a multitude of other in-suite amenities. This place is perfect for the grandparents to bring the kids and grandkids for an all family vacation. Villa La Estancia dishes out old world, authentic Mexico here.
The Appetizing Riu Palace Pacifico: All-Inclusive, Spanish-flair, and Sport Activities
Did I say Palace? In true Palatial style, the Riu Palace Pacifico is an all-inclusive hotel with its glam factor going on, from a regal and open palatial lobby to Greek statues throughout the property. They have a massive freshwater swimming pool with Jacuzzi, water sports, even a bridge with a pool bar to keep you busy, as well as a sun terrace, gym, and wellness center. Staying here means you can eat the gamut of the gastronomy of Mexico! They have a massive buffet with all you can eat, as well as 5 restaurants throughout the complex. The style reminds me more of a cruise ship than it does an on-land facility.
The hotelier is Spanish family owned and tends to be more like a European resort than one you find in Mexico. You will also find a multitude of outdoor and sports activities to keep the kids happy. From boogie boards to kayaks, to Hobie cats, and windsurfing, they have it all and it is all included in your stay. There are also kids programs as well as night time entertainment, a disco, and many lounge bars to keep you entertained and engaged during your stay.

My goodness – it looks like paradise. I’ve always wanted to go to Puerto Vallarta ever since I was a little girl and watched The Love Boat, that’s where they always went (and Acapulco). Staying at this resort looks much more luxurious than going by cruise!
These hotels all sound amazing! It would be so nice to have the chance to stay ag each one of them. I love the different styles.
Wow, it looks absolutely stunning there! I am currently planning our honeymoon, so maybe this will have to go on the list!
Any of those hotels would be amazing family stays. We love Puerto Vallarta, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to be staying at ONE of those the next time we go.
These look like amazing places to stay. My favorite would probably be Villa La Estancia.
All of these hotels look spectacular. We’ve never visited Puerto Vallarta, but can definitely see where it would make a beautiful family vacation. Stunning views! Plus, the multi-rooms suites at Villa La Estancia Beach Resort and Spa would accommodate us all.
Ah, that looks so beautiful! I would love to visit there someday, It is now officially on my bucket list. I want to go to there!
I can’t figure out which I love best- I think I need to stay at all of them. They all have everything I love.
These are all amazing! Would love to visit each when we visit Puerto Vallarta. 😀
Wow, what an amazing destination! I could truly see myself sitting on the beach here, as well as staying in this fabulous hotel. The pictures you posted are terrific.
Thanks! Love PV and taking photos!
My husband and I were just talking about taking a trip there. Such great options!
Love it there!
I’d love to visit. Maybe we’ll take an adventure there this summer. We haven’t planned our vacay yet.
PV is a great place to go!
What a wonderful place! Clean but very old and very much showing wear. The plumbing fixtures were from the 60’s and water ran everywhere. The tub was held together with duct tape and silicon!
oh no, where was this at? Try the Hotel Mousai, you can’t go wrong there!
These definitely look like some gorgeous places to stay! We loved visiting Puerto Vallarta!
Me too! I love PV!
